Best recommendation for a UK Broker for intra day and options trading
Hi everyone I'm new to trading and have been researching strategies for a few months now. Could anyone recommend me a reputable broker in the UK for day trading and options that won't scam me? Preferably with hot keys options.I'd also like to know if its possible to trade with an American based platform in the UK?

MT4 vs Sharescope vs Webfeed
All,
I am spreadbetting using sharescope for forex and indices. The program in itself is great for longer term investing and portfolio management. From that point of view it is a 5 star. Their intraday implementation however I am not too happy with (too many quirks and bugs imo) and I feel i need to move on sadly.

Now, the question is
1- Should I be using MT4 (or MT5? difference?) with my spreadbetting data anyway? Is their data reliable, are ta indicators going to be reliable/acurate (ish)?
2 - Should I completely ignore spreadbetting feed and go with third party feed?
I understand that I can trade directly from MT4 and that is a plus if that is the case.
I would like my solution to support browser, ipad, alerts, hull and vidya ma with ribbons (multiple ma), candles and heikin ashi. That's pretty much all. I look at m5, h2, h4, d1 charts.
I think I might be right is thinking that candles from spreadbetting might not be accurate, for indices at least? Should be ok for forex since their quote should be the correct price? Am I right?
Solution doesn't have to be free if it works very well.

Nifty Holds 8710 Support, FII Selling Continues
Indian Market Outlook:
Midway through the September F&O series, the benchmark Nifty has corrected by over 250 points already from its high of 8995. Nifty slipped to 8717 levels yesterday before bouncing back to close at the day high of 8779.The surprise rally was supported by Bank Nifty which was up by 0.6 percent. FII and Pros have been sellers in the F&O segment as well as the cash markets. In the past few trading sessions, combined selling has been seen by FII and DII, which suggests that if 8700 is breached then 8540 would be the next likely support for the Index.
Nifty Futures is expected to open at 8750 as per SGX Nifty at 8:30 am IST, which is below its previous close of 8778.
International Market Outlook:
International markets traded softly yesterday with the SP futures correcting by 23 points from yesterday high of 2141 and is trading near the range lows of 2110 and the support of 2110 is very important which if breached can take it down to its monthly low of 2065.

Saudi Arabia: The optimal bear
The chart above presents my cyclical analysis on the SAUDI/DJI ratio. The reason why I chose to analyze the ratio rather than the monetary quote is because of the recent tensions between the Saudi Arabia and the United States. There is little difference between a indices pair and a currency pair. Indices pairs can be used to see who will attract more capital relative to the other or who will suffer a larger flee of capital than the other depending on whether we are in a bull or bear market. The cyclical structure on this ratio is crystal clear! we are currently in the second 54 month cycle of the second 9 year cycle of the current 18 year cycle. I don't have enough data to know where the previous 54 year cycle low was however the 1999 low is a top contender considering that this ratio was in a bear market for 12 years prior to that low. It is worth pointing out however that we peaked in the first 9 year cycle which is somewhat odd if the 1999 low was indeed the Kondratieff wave low. In any case, we are certainly bearish on this indices pair going into 2019 or so. This means that the great crash that awaits the financial markets will hit Saudi Arabia more than the United States. This will happen despite a surge in oil prices which means that it can only happen due to geopolitical event since a large percentage of the Saudi economy is based on oil and should do well with rising oil prices. God only knows what the cause will be!
This is my Elliott wave interpretation of the TASI/DJI ratio. It seems evident that we are in a double zigzag correction to the downside. We had a clear wave A(circle) lower followed by a clear b wave triangle that was followed by a miniture wave c sell off. This corrective decline was followed by a three wave rally that channel's as a correction quite perfectly. After this corrective pull back we fell to knew lows in three waves. Some may like to say that the three wave decline is the wave Y and the correction in the TASI terminated. I would point those few to the first image posted in this post... The cycle still suggests further declines to put in an 18 year cycle trough.
The image above shows my projection for the TASI/DJI index pair. The market has potential to rally going into 2017 after which we should see a significant sell off to the downside. This should accompany the stock market catastrophe we are expecting in all stock indices but I guess we will leave the doomsday scenario for another report. I would bet that in the first few years of international tension Saudi will be at a disadvantage. We need to keep in mind however that after mid 2019 the lows are expected and this ratio will begin a new 18 year cycle to the upside.

Fed up of being stopped out, but correct
Hi,
I have been trading on paper and got consistent, swing trade equities, I basically flick the charts looking for very clean break out retests.
However I am sick of calling the correct direction only to stopped out, before the trade works.
So trying to come up with idea's....
Could buy a put option with 0.5 delta, so can then increase my stop loss, and the put option will go higher in value to compensate.
Perhaps write calls on the stock to the max loss of the trade.
Or just trade options, ratio backspreads ect...
Any other ideas?

Banking and Auto shares saw sharp bouts of profit booking as FII sold positions in cash as well as the F&O segment.
Nifty is expected to be volatile till Fed meet on Wednesday night Indian time, which is expected to clear the probable timeframe of the next interest rate hike in the United States.
Nifty Futures is expected to open at 8750 as per SGX Nifty at 8:30 am IST, which is above its previous close of 8742.

then last week they just totally disappeared , no contact either by phone or e mail .
its been a week now and nothing , there must be others out there in the uk that have been ripped off by this company , i feel ive been conned into this as looking at the company through companies house , they were being wound up as they hadnt submitted the tax payment by may so companies house gave them 2 months to sort it out or be closed .
i hope i can find anyone else who is in the same situation where maybe we can do something or even stop these scammers from doing it again , because the way i see it atm is theyll probably lie low for a few weeks then start it up again

Trading workstation specs - opinion request
I would like to ask your opinion on the following configuration of the desktop PC I am looking to buy as my trading workstation:

I will run Ninja Trader and TT Platform with around 6 charts (each with Jigsaw Trading Depth&Sales) open in NinjaTrader and 4-6 MD Trader DOMs and 2-3 charts in TT Platform.
Do you think this will not overheat when running for around 12 hours a day?
Will it run smoothly and not freeze during news releases?
NVidia GPU will be added by me which will breach the warranty conditions but I have to do it as I cannot rely on the Intel graphics.

Which index/forex/commodities to use?
Hi there
I'm, like probably many others, trying to see if I can create buy and sell rules based on multiple criteria, that returns a profit. At this time, I can, if there was no spread ;) But there is, so I have to work on...
The question I have is the following. My rules give the highest return when movements up or down are as long and high as possible in a 1 min graph. Maybe not surprising. But is there statistics anywhere that shows which index/forex/commodity that has the the longest and highest movements? I need big long waves, not just small ripples :) Does any statistics per index/forex/commodities like that exist, or has anybody in here any views after having tested this?

Bull Credit Spread maximum risk question
Hello,
I have a question about a Bull Credit Spread. I am quite new to options but understand the basics with this spread but there are 2 things I really must sort out that I don't exactly understand.
I have seen this example on a video for a bull credit spread and have 2 questions.
Question 1: Does 10 contracts mean that we sell 5 contracts on $36 and buy 5 contracts on $35?
Question 2: This is the question I really must sort out and understand. It is how MAXIMUM RISK is calculated.
I understand the calculation that we take the Absolute value for the difference of the strike prices which is $1.00 and then multiply it with 1000 shares which is 10 contracts and that is equal to: $1000.
But here is anyway something that is not clear to me how it can be that. Aren't the strike prices themselves irrelavant because we bought 5 contracts of each where we should look at what the ACTUAL option did cost like:
$0.95 * 500 shares = $475
$0.80 * 500 shares = $400
Total: $875
So shouldn't the Maximum risk be $875?
It is somewhere here I don't really get it all, I beleive I need some real true scenario example why it is exactly 1000$?

I wrote a journal on this site over a year ago, however my trading was quite a mess and my analysis lacked follow through. Since then I have not given up and have been studying the charts every day, determined to become one of the best. :thumbsup:

- Unemployed economics graduate
- lost £2,200 to the monster that is the market (so far)
- trade purely on technical analysis
- top down analysis from weekly down to daily, 4hr and hourly timeframes
- only 'indicator' used is 10 period EMA
- instruments traded: FOREX and major commodities (oil, gold, platinum)
- account size £500
STRATEGY
- entering breakouts/trend changes/contractions and expansions in volatility on one time frame in confluence with the time frame above.
- taking profits at 3,2 and even 1 RR
some of you might think i'm crazy for taking trades at 1:1 risk-to-reward however my studies of charts show me that these trades have extremely high success rates.

Since the 2008 crisis economies around the world have been struggling to return to inflation targets. Monetary policy is not working very well and debt has sky rocketed. to give you a feeling of the magnitute of it here are some stats
euro area
From 1996 its debt to gdp was 70% and gradually reduced to 65% before 2008. Today its 90%.
usa
World war 2 took debt to 120% of gdp where it gradually worked to 40% in 1980 and then worked up to a a range around 60% between 1995 and 2008.Today its sitting at 104%
japan
was 100% of gdp in about 1998 and increased by 150% in 2008.Today its 229%
Given that the usa government is bankrupt since its only liquid asset that isn't debt related is its gold reserves. the usa has 8133 tones of gold which roughly exchanges for approximately $238 billion . The usa's recent gdp number is $17947 billion. If debt is 104% of gdp then its bankrupt any way you look at it. I bring up the usa specifically because its still the world reserve currency even though things are changing.
Word is out that central banks are losing their ability to maintain stability and return growth. Lets face it they haven't been able to fix 5hit up and are really just adding wood to the fire. Interest rates are at historic lows and have been for a long time. The issue is the bond bubble that has been building as a result of low rates. The same foes for equity markets with many being at all time highs. Central banks have effectively caused a bubble environment and when the bubble bursts, governments will be left with no choice and need to pump more money. The next burst is going to be particularly bad with nobody really in strong financial position to recover. Where this all leads is anyone's' guess but it sure is going to be worse than 2008 for a whole lot more people than 2008.When interest rates rise the bond market is going to be molten rock.

I was thinking of opening a brokerage account and operating the account from my iPhone.
I understand that day traders and more veteran traders use trading platforms but I was wondering whether I need one? As I get more experienced, I may choose to use one and purchase a better computer set up than what I have now. Which trading platforms are best? What is the sign of a good trading platform? Many brokers offer their own, free trading platforms, are they worth using? Or should I look into purchasing one?

Looking for UK Broker Reccomendations

I'm brand new here to the forum and to trading. I'm looking to learn as much as possible and I understand one of the best ways it to jump in and get my feet wet by paper trading with a demo account.
I have looked as best as I can to find a UK broker for Spread Betting & CFDs but I'm having difficulty in finding any solid recommendations. I would like ideally to choose a broker now and not have to change mid stream when I decide to trade with real money.
I have on my short list:

Plus 500
InterTrader
Any pointers would be very much appreciated, thanks.

EIA Weekly Data
How exactly does the weekly inventory report from the EIA reach the markets?
Having examined the EIA website I can see that they seem to release a substantial set of weekly figures in the form of a spreadsheet or a csv file. Looks like they release it at a precise and particular time each week, yesterday for example it was at 16:00 in my time zone - GMT.
It would take some time - perhaps 30 seconds - to manually download and manipulate the file from the EIA website. But yet the oil price in the market tends to react instantly once the clock turns 16:00. So I'm wondering how that can be? And I'm thinking there must be some faster way of getting the EIA release figures rather than the manual way I described above.
So does anyone know what the faster way is? Are the key figures released somewhere else by the EIA such as Reuters or Bloomberg? I am trying to understand how the market can react so instantaneously to a set of figures that require 30 seconds of work before being actionable.

International broker with reasonable fees and min balance?
I'm a Canadian looking to travel a bit and may move to Colombia, Brazil or Uruguay I'm not sure yet.
As a trader how will I get access to US markets in a cheap and reasonable way?
I already have a Questrade account but it is Canadian only. I recently opened an Interactive Brokers account but the trading fees are too high. I paid $27.50 to buy 6000 shares of TNXP yesterday($5500 worth), and another $27.50 to sell today. Such a trade would only cost $10 each way with Questrade, or even less with a discount US broker such as Just2Trade or Sogotrade.
After a bit of research Schwab, Fidelity and E-trade come up as good options. But Schwab requires 25k minimum which is a bit too high for me right now.
I was hoping to find an interational broker with reasonable fees and minimum balance.

I have trailed IG Index and have found that there are wild spikes in price not remotely reflecting the real market which is impossible to trade with. For example their US stock all session stocks have huge fluctuations. Take Goldman Sachs as an example. On the 15th June 2016 the chart shows a high of 15122 and a low of 7346 (7776 points) which is enough to take out any stop. The real market was a high of 14870 and a low of 14590 (only 280 points). This pattern is repeated time and time again. I have asked IG why and their explanation is that they offer all sessions and because of this prices will fluctuate wildly. In my opinion trading with IG is therefore gambling not trading.
If there are no good reliable spread betting companies, can anyone recommend a good UK broker with charting? Interactive brokers apparently chart for charting.

Narrowgate Trading Daily Technical Analysis
I've developed my own trading system and proprietary indicators, which I have dubbed "Proverbs 16:3" (to give honor where honor is due) and plan to use this thread to document my level of success or failure.
My primary interest is in the major currency pairs, which I trade daily using 15-minute charts, but I kind of dislike what I'm seeing right now in that there does not look to be a lot of trending at present. Rather, I feel I'm looking at reoccurring jumps and consolidation. Nonetheless, my best take on the present situation is as follows...
More or less bullish:
AUDUSD, GBPUSD, EURUSD, XAUUSD (Gold)
More or less bearish:
GBPJPY, EURJPY, USDCAD, USDCHF, USDJPY
Reversing north:
EURGBP
My tentative plans:
Go long AUDUSD if price drops back down to the 0.7666 level without reversing the trend.

I worked on a Chemical plant for nearly 20 years. Luckily the shift pattern gave me time off in the week and I started watching the charts. I demo'd for a bit then started with very small stakes. I was a couple of years down this path when a new management team took over at work. Streamlining and cost cutting were the new watch-words. Ultimately, they stopped us working weekends. So, with my time off midweek curtailed and a big hit on my salary - I decided it was time to leave and try trading full time.
That was six months ago - I've never regretted the decision to leave, but I can't say I've made it yet either. I'm going to review my progress every 6 months. As long as I can pay the bills and I'm still keen, I'm going to carry on.

There is company on the NASDAQOMX called TMG. Its a essentially a rollup of 20 or so marketing companies.
Each company were given 20% cash and 80% stock when they joined with a 360 day lockin period. They all debt free and profitable. The stock trades at around 5.50 a share.
I'm interested in buying stock as I understand the space and think they are good companies.
However, my question is how could the holding company mitigate the share price tanking when everyone dumps their stock in 360 days? The holding company could buy the stock themselves but what else?

For e.g. fmlabs is a company that sells dll that can be used in an existing product. However their library is old and has some bugs.
Can anyone suggest similar libraries that support backtesting and optimization. My program will be developed in .net and will be a windows application.

Prism aims to end a bid by Sprint Spectrum LP, which does business as Sprint PCS, for a new trial. It also is cross-appealing the district court's decision not to award Prism ongoing royalties for the life of the patent, saying the ruling was an abuse of discretion because the $30 million verdict only compensates the company for past infringement.
"The district court abused its discretion in denying Prism’s motion for supplemental damages through entry of judgment and ongoing royalties through the life of the patents, finding that the jury’s award compensated Prism for Sprint’s past, present and ongoing infringement," Prism said. "To the contrary, the trial record confirms that the jury awarded Prism $30 million in damages only for Sprint’s past infringement of Prism’s patents."
In March, Sprint told the appeals court — four months after its bid for a new trial was denied — that the district court wrongly allowed Prism Technologies LLC to argue a different claim construction to the jury than the one the court adopted.
The wireless carrier contended the jury’s finding that the wireless provider had infringed two patents held by Prism was inconsistent with evidence that showed none of its accused networks fit the definition of “Internet Protocol network," a key term in the patents' claims.
Sprint also said that the district court erred by allowing Prism to hide the deficiencies of its case by introducing a settlement agreement it reached with AT&T Inc., which was sued by Prism at the same time as Sprint on the same asserted patents and which settled in the midst of trial.
The wireless provider also argued to the Federal Circuit that the district court erred in allowing Prism to introduce a cost-savings theory of damages that is untethered to the patented features of the asserted claims, saying Prism’s theory in no way addresses the key patented features of the inventions.
Sprint urged the appeals court to reverse the judgment and vacate the award of damages, or, at the very least, to reverse and remand for a new trial.
The lawsuit was one of five that Prism filed against cellphone providers — including AT&T, T-Mobile USA Inc. and Verizon Wireless — in April 2012, alleging the providers had tread on patented database and networking technology.
Following a trial in June, jurors deliberated less than four hours before finding Sprint had infringed two patents held by Prism and owed the holding company $30 million in damages.
Generally speaking, the patents pertain to the way a device obtains authorization and access to a wireless network for data services. In the case of Sprint, Prism alleged that it infringed with network systems that controlled access to its 4G LTE, 4G WiMAX and 3G networks, among others.
Sprint asked for a new trial in late July, arguing there had been a series of errors that had resulted in a “fundamental miscarriage of justice,” but U.S. District Judge Lyle E. Strom denied the bid, saying he couldn’t find any blatant errors that would warrant a new trial.

Robust Bull Trend Likely To Drive Nifty above 9000
Indian Market Outlook:
The markets opened gap up after an extended weekend and sustained above 8900 throughout the day's trading, with solid support from Banking stocks. The second half showed momentum buying and Nifty closed above 8950, with Bank nifty closing above 19450. NSE Small cap Index broke all time high of 6175, which is confirmation of broad based buying. FII are net buyers on cash as well as F&O segment, underlining their confidence in Indian markets.
Top 5 gainers for yesterday were Tata Motors, Axis Bank, Tata Motor DVR, Yes Bank andICICI Bank.
Nifty Futures is expected to open at 8983 as per SGX Nifty at 8:40 am IST, which is above its previous close of 8966.

I have thought of a hedging method, as we know markets crash down not up.
At the moment for example could sell a call vertical say 2300 / 2330 and get a credit.
Then find a long setup, purchase an option same price as credit.
Get one ATM, so when it moves up you get intrinsic value, exercise it and let the SPX vertical expire worthless.
So long at the max risk on the vertical is no more thatn 10% of account, and can roll anyway.
I see this as a good way to get my trading off the ground with live money.

Now that I've decided to make another attempt at trading not one single person close to me thinks I can pull it off. They all think I'm crazy because of my failures before. Everyone says to me that nobody makes a day training. They really don't know what they're talking about.

Hi.
I've been googling to try to find a detailed
Comparison of SB and/or CFD brokers in the Uk.
Most results so far show only very high level info in the comparison, eg margin %s for certain markets, minimum trade size, etc.
I'm trying to find out which brokers, if any, will have a margin requirement on the NET position in a stock or index.
Ie. I've looked at IG and Plus500 and whilst they allow hedging a position, they seem to calculate the margin on both the long and short positions.
If i place an order that moves away from me, I can then short it to minimise my loss without closing out the position and crystallising the loss.
But if the margin requirement is based on one or both sides of the position I may eventually be forced to close or be liquidated, rather than staying in the trade until the price moves back in my favour.
Does anyone know of a broker that calculates margins of the Net position instead, and ideally who won't insist on a guaranteed stop loss being placed on orders for new traders, as that would have a similar effect
Of crystallising my loss, rather than allowing me to ride out a price movement.

I have already implemented a lot of (my own) CFD strategies and it is all running pretty well. The database (which contains most of the logic) is based on MS SQL Server 2014 and the API I programmed in C#. My system is suitable for long-term holding as well as for day trading (but not for high frequency trading). Live prices for any markets provided by City Index are available. It takes about 500 milliseconds (0.5 seconds) from the moment of calculating an order (based on the strategy) until the orders is processed successfully at the broker.
Does anybody have a successful strategy that could be automated but you don't know how and you don't want to use any of the generic tools available? Maybe I could automate your strategy on my automated trading system (for a small variable or fixed commission of course). I can append unlimited additional strategies to my system as long as the strategy really can be automated.

Nifty Closes Below 8820, Reliance Tanks With Telecom
Indian Market Outlook:
The Indian benchmark Index Nifty remained subdued in the early hours of trade yesterday and remained in a narrow range of 20 points. While the Index remained confined between 8855 and 8819, Reliance rocked the Telecom industry with its one of a kind plan which pushed down prices of Bharti and Idea by almost 10%. Later Reliance shares too tanked by almost 2% triggering ripple effects in Nifty. The benchmark Index made a low of 8795 and closed at 8817 during the final hours of trade. The primary focus will remain on US Nonfarm Payroll data that is due to be announced today at 6:00pm IST. Banking Stocks outperformed but gave off much of the shine during the last 30 mins of trade. Nifty however has managed to close above the breakout level of 8780 which indeed is a positive sign for the bulls.
Top 5 gainers for yesterday were GAIL, LUPIN, M&M, HDFC and Ultra Cement.
Nifty Futures is expected to open at 8803 as per SGX Nifty at 8:20 am IST, which is at its previous close of 8817.
International Market Outlook:
International markets are stuck in a trading range. S&P Futures after making a low of 2154.75 had recovered by 13 points and is still the trading range is between 2190-2155.
DAX Futures were quite yesterday and stuck in a narrow range bound movement and traded in a range of 100points. Japan Nikkei is positive in today trading.

Weekly Option ( on Futures)
Would like to explore ask few things about use of Weekly Expiry options
( Options on Futures NOT on ETF or Stock )
To start with although they "look" cheap" because of the short duration on an annualized basis they are expensive!
For example I checked the cost of a ATM PUT on ES ( ES @2170)
- Expiry 1 day = around 7.50
- Expiry 9 Days = around 13.50
A) Married PUT or Protective CALL (Both ATM)
Q1) Is it worth doing it? for the Strategy to succeed the underlying has to move not only in correct direction but has to recover cost of the Protection.
Q2) for this what is the "Optimum" time frame of the Option expiry ( using weekly)
Q3) What indicator can be used to back study how much a Futures contract moves in a specific time frame ( in terms of points not %)
B) Buy Straddle ATM ( Long CALL + Long PUT)
In above example = approx 15 or 27 points approx
Q: For the Strategy to succeed the underlying has to move rapidly + sufficiently in any direction.

What platform to use, special request
Hi there
After a few months on ETX with small amounts, slowly learning, I'm ready to put a few more zeros on the amounts that I trade. But...I'm very focused on the risk, and I'm looking for another platform. Why? Because at ETX I can lose more than I deposited, and that in itself makes me trade smaller amounts than what I would otherwise do.
I've seen lists of various platforms, but this about whether one can lose more than deposited, is not mentioned. Am I the only one that cares? A loss bigger than the deposit can be life changing, in a bad way
So the question is what platform can give me the tools and reasonable spreads, be FCA regulated, AND have a product where the max risk is the deposited amount?
Input is welcome, and any other advice about lowering risk when choosing platform.
