Santai Chef Wan: Lelaki buat kerja rumah bukan pondan

KUALA LUMPUR - Stigma masyarakat Malaysia beranggapan lelaki yang membuat kerja-kerja wanita di rumah sebagai pondan perlu dikikis kerana ia boleh memberi kesan negatif terhadap institusi kekeluargaan, kata pakar masakan, Datuk Redzuawan Ismail.



Redzuawan atau lebih dikenali sebagai Chef Wan berkata, anggapan itu berlaku secara meluas di Malaysia akibat tahap ego keterlaluan dalam diri di kalangan lelaki khususnya Melayu, yang melihat melakukan kerja-kerja rumah sebagai individu yang memiliki perwatakan lembut.



"Tidak semestinya lelaki yang membuat kerja-kerja rumah dianggap lemah dan lembut. Mereka berbuat demikian bagi membantu isteri yang mungkin penat setelah bekerja di pejabat.



"Bagaimanapun, dalam masyarakat kita persepsi sedemikian masih terjadi sedangkan ia tidak pernah wujud di negara Barat," katanya kepada Bernama selepas menjadi anggota panel dalam diskusi 'Mentakrifkan Kelelakian' (Redefining Masculinity) sempena Forum Wanita Luar Biasa (The Woman Extraordinaire Forum) 2014, di sini hari ini.



Chef Wan berkata, sebagai suami dan bapa yang merupakan ketua keluarga, mereka sepatutnya menjadi contoh yang baik kepada anak-anak dengan membantu melakukan kerja-kerja rumah.



"Melalui pengalaman sendiri, saya dapati apabila melakukan kerja-kerja rumah ia bukan hanya menyenangkan, malah menyihatkan badan," katanya.



Pereka fesyen, Bon Zainal Harun berkata, maruah serta imej seorang lelaki tidak akan terjejas sekiranya membantu isteri melakukan kerja-kerja rumah termasuk mencuci pinggan mangkuk dan membasuh pakaian.



"Bukan hanya kerja rumah, malahan jika lelaki yang terlibat dalam bidang kewanitaan seperti fesyen dan memasak pun turut dilabel sebagai lelaki lembut atau songsang.



Perkara sebegini tidak seharusnya berlaku kerana ia mampu menghalang seorang individu khususnya lelaki untuk menceburi bidang yang digemari mereka," katanya.



Diskusi selama sejam yang membincangkan stereotaip orang ramai mengenai peranan lelaki dalam urusan rumah tangga pada masa kini, turut melibatkan Pengarah Eksekutif SEGi Group, Kim Odhner sebagai anggota panel.
